In May of 2022, Legacy Credit Union announced a partnership with the UAB National Alumni Society to launch the Craft Your Legacy Scholarship. This $2,500 scholarship would be awarded to one UAB undergraduate or graduate student looking to further their education. In October of the same year, the first scholarship was awarded to Julia Andres. In November of 2023, Legacy awarded their 2nd annual scholarship to Amaria Thomas. Today, we are proud to announce Randall “Jonmykel” Wormley as our 2024 recipient of the Craft Your Legacy Scholarship. Wormley is a senior from McCalla, Alabama majoring in Entrepreneurship and minoring in Information Systems and International Business at UAB’s Collat School of Business. There he serves as an Ambassador in the Student Leader program and is involved in student organizations such as International Business Association and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Jonmykel also volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club, Helping Hands, Bread of Life, and Atonement Group Home. When asked what he wanted his legacy to be, Wormley’s response was “I want my legacy to encourage others to follow their dreams and to avoid placing limits in their minds.” He goes on to say he wants his legacy to “challenge others to be bold, embrace what makes them genuinely happy, and to work fiercely to make the world a better place.” Wormley also says his personal goal is to “revitalize impoverished communities so that young people who weren’t blessed with the opportunities I have had, can achieve their dreams.”Alicia McCall, Senior Instructor at UAB, describes Jonmykel as “bright, forward-thinking, and hard-working.” She goes on to say that during a virtual study abroad course, she was able to see firsthand Wormley’s academic excellence. She was also impressed with his “leadership, enthusiasm, detail and professionalism” throughout the course.“The Craft Your Legacy Scholarship is empowering the next generation of leaders, one scholarship at a time” said Leia Ragland, AVP of Marketing and Business Development. With Education being one of Legacy’s core values, Ragland said “we’re proud to continue our investment in UAB students’ education through our scholarship program.” Along with the Craft Your Legacy Scholarship, Legacy Credit Union also sponsors the UAB National Alumni Society’s Growing Up Green & Gold program, Legacy Family Day held each August, and Legacy Pinning Ceremony to celebrate children of UAB Alumni beginning their education at UAB.
