I'm not out here to kill the hopes and dreams of mom and pops restaurants, and for the established places I can only speak my truth. The truth is, I wanted to really like this place. Yesterday I was at an indoor play center with my kids and I met some random people and we started to talk about Pizza. I mentioned how my favorite place in the valley is probably the one near Van Nuys and Ventura (I won't mention the name as to not seem like I am here to hype a specific business). One of the guys insisted that the best pizza in Los Angeles is West Hills Pizza Co. Wow, big endorsement. I am naturally suspicious, and I will throw in here, yes, I am, from NYC and obsessed since I was a kid with "good pizza." Now, I may be wrong, but I don't think it's wood oven, but it looks like they have standard gas decks, which all over NYC and it's suburbs and here in LA is capable of making classic NYC-style, yummy pizza. So that was encouraging. But I'm getting ahead...let me start by saying I called in my order...three small pies. I asked about the Margherita, what THEY put on it usually, and the girl on the phone said cilantro...which sounded weird to me. I asked if that can be subbed for basil, which is usually standard. She asked, and said she made a mistake, that it actually does come with basil. OK, maybe she is new, no big deal. And she was pleasant and courteous enough. But let's talk about the service for a moment. When I arrived I was excited to try the pizza and in a good mood about it. The three girls working there (pretty, and seemed at first glance that they would be nice) were pretty blah. But then it got a bit kinda rude...I started to tell the one
