X-Orcism II is a Halloween-themed voice changer that integrates four effects: delay, reverb, pitch shifter, and noise generator.Solid State Logic has not specified whether the freebie is a limited-time or permanent offer. The developer explains that the plugin is suitable for sound design, game development, music production, or any project that requires supernatural sounds. Solid State Logic aimed to make X-Orcism II an intuitive way to manipulate audio and create haunting, immersive soundscapes. It’s a natural fit for vocal processing, but it can produce otherworldly sounds when paired with synths, guitars and other sources. You have to sign up for the Solid State Logic mailing list on the product page to get your free copy.After I submitted an email address, links appeared on the page to the macOS and Windows installers. You’ll also need to use a free iLok account (or dongle) to authorize the plugin. There doesn’t seem to be an official audio demo of X-Orcism II available, although if you want to suss out how it sounds, there are several user audio demos of the plugin available on YouTube. Solid State Logic released the original X-Orcism plugin all the way back in 2012, with the most visible change in the new release being an expanded control scheme.The plugin features a preset selector and the following controls: Echoes, Crypt Size, Ghoul, Wail, Tombverb, Mix, Howl, and Output.I’m not the biggest fan of these mystery-themed titles for the controls, but at least the control scheme is fairly simple so I guess figuring it out won’t take that long. Ghoul and Wail combine to complete the pitch-shifting section, while Echoes and Crypt Size control the delay and Tombverb the reverb. Howl, meanwhile, controls the noise generator, and you can further customize it with automation.There’s quite a bit to play with there, and I can see how combining the effects in different ways would really open up a lot of aural options. Closing out a great year of additions to its Fission plugins, SSL dropped a shelving EQ which shines best when used subtly. Fission Violet EQ is the company’s latest two-band EQ plugin that performs best tending to minor blemishes. So without further ado, let’s dive into this new Fission plugin from SSL, and see everything it has to offer.As described by Solid State Logic, “The Violet EQ is a 2-band minimum phase-shift shelving EQ from the critically acclaimed Fusion Stereo Analogue Colour processor.” Further adding, “It is the first new Solid State Logic analogue EQ design in more than 25 years.” Right off the bat, SSL’s introduction of Violet EQ colors us impressed (no pun intended). At the front end, users can adjust the input trim using +/- 12dB of gain. An initial high-pass filter can be engaged at either 30, 40, or 50Hz settings.Violet’s two band EQ sits directly in the middle, and use stationary frequency selections. On the low end, users can adjust at either 30, 50, 70, or 90Hz, using +/- 9dB of freedom. Looking further up the spectrum, the high-end band consists of the same, at frequencies of 8, 12, 16, or 20kHz. Finally, SSL chose to incorporate its rising “FAT” button in its latest plugin. When the HPF is engaged, “FAT” adds an extra bump around the cut-off frequency, adding some extra low-end boost.SSL’s Fusion Violet EQ rings up at $199, but from now until January 13th, you can pick it up discounted at $149.
