Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Safari says I’m about to clear more tabs than I am aware of having open when I clear history and website data I have noticed since iPadOS 17 that when I clear history and website data it gives a timeframe option and a clear tabs option along with telling me how many tabs will be closed before it clears. The number of tabs it says it will close is always more than the number of tabs I am aware of having open. Right now, for instance, I am aware of having just this one tab open as I write this, but I can go to clear history and website in settings, as I just did, it says “This will close your 2 tabs.” Prior to my recent clear I had 1 tab open, that I was aware of, and it said it was going to close 9 tabs. I have no idea where they could be. 1 may have been a private tab, but it would be 1 maximum. How could I have 9 tabs open that I am unaware of? Where can they be? How can I access them? Is anyone else using tabs on my account? Am I part of a bot-net somehow? Does anyone at Apple have answers? Because no matter how many times I clear history, anytime I open safari and go to a single site it says I have two tabs open if I go to clear it again. iPad Pro, iPadOS 17 Posted on Jan 20, 2024 5:38 PM Posted on Jan 20, 2024 7:25 PM I don’t have other tab groups or private tabs open. I cleared my history and had it clear all tabs, then opened safari, went to one site, went back into settings and went to clear history again and it says it’s going to clear 2 tabs. I want to know where this second tab is. Is it a glitch? Is safari opening a hidden tab somewhere else that I can’t access? Is my iPad cloned somehow and everything I do opens up on someone else’s machine? It’s freaky to see and just makes me feel like my iPad is not secure! I don’t know if you’ve tried it on your iPad but go to clear your history and website data and when that window pops up for timeframe and tabs see how many tabs it’s saying you’re about to close and see if that matches up to how many you think you have open. Incognito TabsChrome Incognito or private browsing mode doesn‘t record your history or cookies, offering increased privacy. The downside is losing an incognito session makes it near impossible to recover tabs directly through Chrome. However all is not lost yet! Here are two last ditch techniques to resurrect closed incognito tabs:Check restored session files manually – When Chrome crashes unexpectedly with incognito tabs, it will save session snapshot files to your local file system marked as incognito that you can navigate manually to reopen tabs. The files are located in the Session Storage directory under your Chrome user data folder:Windows: C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\ MacOS: /Users/[USER]/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Linux: /home/[USER]/.config/google-chrome/Default/ Here you‘ll find timestamped .bak session files you can potentially restore from.Use tab recovery extension – Rather than digging through files manually, I recommend installing a dedicated chrome extension like TabSave which retains tab history for a custom period of time, even in incognito mode. This allows you to easily reopen accidentally closed tabs from a persistent menu weeks after the fact. I install TabSave by default now to avoid any frustration losing research tabs.Sync Tabs Across Your DevicesBeyond local backup and restore, Chrome Sync offers a way to access open browser tabs from all signed in devices. For example, if you have 10 tabs open on your desktop researching at home, you can pull up the exact same set on your mobile phone later if needed. It also sync bookmarks so you stay organized. To enable tab and bookmark syncing across devices:Click your profile icon in Chrome > SettingsSelect Sync (or type chrome://settings/syncSetup) in side menu Toggle on sync features like "Open Tabs" and "Bookmarks" width="300 height="150" alt="Enable Chrome sync settings">Once configured, you can view all synced tabs by typing chrome://tabs in your address bar or clicking the recent tabs icon in the Chrome menu. This gives me great
