The existence of Mortal Kombat 12 has come into question after developer NetherRealm Studios dropped a teaser of sorts for fans of the franchise.Taking to Twitter earlier today, senior producer Jonathan Andersen shared a now deleted photo of his workstation (via Reddit) with various promotional media scattered all over. Eagle-eyed fans were keenly able to spot a file named “MK12_Mast” on his computer screen which can only stand for Mortal Kombat 12.However, the said file was right beneath an email from NetherRealm Studios asking its staff to “take extra care with this material” as “fans eagerly scrape the internet for any trace…” of presumably unannounced projects. The intention behind the photo has hence raised questions. Some believe that Andersen is simply trolling the community while others are labelling it as an intentional marketing ploy. Mortal Kombat 12 is inevitable but whether NetherRealm Studios plans to make that its next project remains to be officially confirmed. The last Mortal Kombat 11 was released in 2019 and sold more than 12 million copies worldwide across all support platforms by 2021. The game was a critical success and boosted the lifetime sales of the franchise to more than 73 million copies sold.NetherRealm Studios has been confirmed to be working on an unannounced project which has been rumored to be a Marvel-based fighting game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The developer has previously worked with DC Comics for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Hence, the developer can indeed switch to add Marvel characters to its Mortal Kombat franchise as well. There is also Injustice 3 to consider. NetherRealm Studios has always released a new Injustice game after Mortal Kombat. Injustice 3 is still missing in action which makes the mention of Mortal Kombat 12 surprising to say the least. : " class="share-link facebook"> " class="share-link twitter"> &title=" class="share-link redit"> &title=" class="share-link linkdin"> --> About the Author Saqib is a managing editor at segmentnext.com who has halted regime changes, curbed
Mortal Kombat 12 Teaser!!! - YouTube
Mortal Kombat Sign in to your Game Rant account Ed Boon has been teasing the official reveal of Mortal Kombat 12 for a while now, and according to his latest tease, the game could be officially revealed this week. For those out of the loop, Ed Boon is one of the original creators of the Mortal Kombat series and has become well known for his social media wit over the last few years. One thing that is fairly certain is that Mortal Kombat 12 is coming this year. Back in February, the Warner Bros Discovery CEO and President David Zaslav casually revealed during a WB earnings call that the next entry in the iconic fighting game series is on track to release before the end of 2023. Ed Boon sarcastically attempted to divert attention away from this lackluster reveal in the wake of the news getting out.In the months between now and then, he has put out multiple other tweets pertaining to Mortal Kombat 12’s reveal. Now, he has taken to Twitter once again to state that, “THIS WEEK SHOULD BE FUN,” which seems to be confirmation that the game will finally be revealed at some point in this coming week, perhaps during some sort of livestream event. Cryptically, the tweet in question was written out in a stylized fashion to resemble the letter L. Speculation about why Boon constructed the message in this manner has been rife in the replies under the tweet, with some theorizing that it is in fact not an L, but the hands of a clock pointing to 3 o’clock. The clock face aesthetic has already been used in Mortal Kombat 12’s marketing, with a teaser being released last week that showed a ticking clock. That clock face teaser also suggested that the upcoming game may be some sort of reboot for the Mortal Kombat franchise, as the clock hands ticked past 11, skipped entirely over the 12, and then stopped on the number 1. There have also been a few leaks recently which seem to corroborate the Mortal Kombat reboot theory. Hopefully the official reveal will come this week, either confirming or rejecting the reboot theory once and for all. Perhaps a CGI trailer will be shown during the reveal stream to confirm whether this new game is a sequel or a prequel, and then a gameplay trailer might be shown off during Sony’s PlayStationMORTAL KOMBAT 12 TEASER. Image: NetherRealm StudiosOn Wednesday, the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account uploaded a video teasing the latest entry in the gory fighting game series, Mortal Kombat 12. Although the trailer was quicker than a hiccup and didn’t showcase any of the game’s characters, it did tease that the game’s story would reset the Mortal Kombat timeline once again.Suggested ReadingThe Week In Games: What’s Coming Out Beyond Mortal Kombat 1OffEnglishSuggested ReadingKeeping in line with Mortal Kombat 12’s quiet confirmation—Warner Bros. president and CEO David Zaslav let the announcement slip during Warner Bros. Discovery’s fourth-quarter earnings call in February—the teaser video lacked the usual fanfare that might accompany a full-fledged trailer littered with screenshot-worthy moments from its diverse cast of characters spectacularly kicking ass. Instead, the 17-second video displayed the minute hand of a clock tick from nine to 11 (y’know, like Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X, and Mortal Kombat 11) before skipping directly back to one. If the simple symbolism bears out, it seems likely Mortal Kombat 12 will be resetting the series’ timeline once again.“It’s almost time,” the Mortal Kombat Twitter account wrote alongside the clip.Read More: Mortal Kombat 11: The Kotaku ReviewUnlike Capcom’s penchant for releasing Resident Evil spin-offs that endlessly mine the narrow time frame around Raccoon City’s zombie apocalypse, MK developer NetherRealm Studios’ narrative bread and butter is to reset its universe at the start and end of its more recent games. In Mortal Kombat 9’s story mode, a pre-murderized Raiden tasked his past self with altering major moments from the first three games to prevent a cataclysmic end to the universe. Ultimately, future Raiden’s vague AF “he must win” message confused even his past self as to whether he should aid Shao Khan or Liu Kang in winning the tournament and marred his reputation as a wise deity, resulting in a yet grimmer universe reset after a bunch of (unintentionally?) hilarious misunderstandings among Earthrealm’s heroes.Mortal Kombat 11’s ending, on the other hand, cemented Liu Kang as an all-powerful god-like figure before teasing him un-screwing big bad Kronika’s “Agatha All Along-ing” of their timeline. It should be noted that the domino trail leading up to MK11’s finale tragically involved the outright jobbing of the once-promising MK10 standout, Kotal Kahn. Sad.Mortal Kombat 12 is projected to release sometime later this year, according to loose-lips Zaslav.Mortal Kombat 12 Teaser - YouTube
