Windows 7 and the entire machine froze (not just internet explorer) after I installed McAfee with SiteAdvisor. The only way to get it to unfreeze was to boot in safe mode and disable the SiteAdvisor service. Now at home we are happy using this system (+3 months ago) zero issues and the slow effect is gone.Of course it's your choice what security apps you want to run on your system.Hope you can try others apps and finally end with a well configured system.
