With that information, the software also scans for the way to delete the malicious software.Once the scan is complete, the program is prepared to impede the entry of malware on a computer system or destroy it, if it is already on the system. The Firewall Once the virus database is updated, McAfee Antivirus software strengthens a computer's firewall. Some antivirus software isn't equipped to keep out all threats—especially new and complex threats—because all software doesn't perform a search that is thorough enough to identify and handle the Internet's new threats. This is not the case with McAfee Antivirus software, and this is also why the firewall is nearly impenatrable. Nothing can enter your computer system without you letting it in, and a warning is issued whenever there is a perceived threat. The firewall on some versions of McAfee even extends to the Internet, so you are notified about harmful websites while you surf the web. If, by accident, you allow a virus or a worm past the firewall and into your system by downloading an infected program or opening a corrupted email attachment, the last line of defense is the virus scan tool, which finds and kills or contains malware for manual deletion. The Virus Scan Utility The virus scan utility searches every file on your computer system for malware and compiles a list of malicious software that you can delete at the end of the scan. Most antivirus software has this utility, but as mentioned in the previous sections, the scans performed by other software are only as effective as their virus databases allow them to be. The depth of McAfee Antivirus's database permits the program to detect and eliminate most threats quickly with a thorough scan. With each ofDark Web Scans and Dark Web Monitoring Explained

The "dark Web" might sound like something out of a comic book, but it's actually a lot closer to home and was instrumental in pulling off recent, high-profile attacks like the ones that hit retailers like Target. In its latest quarterly threat report, McAfee found that scammers are purchasing credit card numbers and other personal data on the dark Web just as the average consumer might be buying something on Amazon. The recent rash of point-of-sale credit card hacks, the report found, can mostly be traced back to off-the-shelf systems. Those attacks include Target, as well as Neiman Marcus, White Lodging, Harbor Freight Tools, Easton-Bell Sports, Michaels craft stores, and 'witchcraft. McAfee found about 40 million credit card numbers for sale, which were stolen in batches of 1 million and 4 million at a time."The breaches were unprecedented in numbers of records stolen, but what is even more notable is how well the malware industry served its customers," the report said.Scammers abused the automated Content Distribution Networks (CDNs) by masking malicious binaries within legitimate installers. "McAfee Labs believes this accelerating trend could pose a significant threat to the long-established certificate authority (CA) model for authenticating 'safe' software," the report said."The fourth quarter of 2013 will be remembered as the period when cybercrime became 'real' for more people than ever before," said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president for McAfee Labs. "These cyber thefts occurred at a time when most people were focused on their holiday shopping and when the industry wanted people to feel secure and confident in their purchases. The impact of these attacks will be felt both at the kitchen table as well as the boardroom table. For security practitioners, the 'off the shelf' genesis of some of these crime campaigns , the scale of operations, and the ease of digitally monetizing stolen customer data all represent a coming of age for both Cybercrime-as-a-Service and the 'dark web' overall."Of course, corporate POS systems are not the only targets for malware. In an increasingly mobile world, McAfee collected 2.47 million new mobile malware samples in 2013—744,000 in the third quarter alone. The best indicator, according to the security company, are those apps that "overcollect," sending personal and device data that can be used to build a profile of the owner's behavior. Additionally, mobile malware appears to be migrating from simply exploiting vulnerabilities to profile building and device hijacking."Sharing tracking information with a mobile app may seem benign or at most, a privacy issue," the report said. "But it raises profound business security implications in the 'bring your own device' world."Guida definitiva al dark web - McAfee
