VLC 2.2.4 on Ubuntu 16.04Build and set-up a minimal VLC 2.2.4 player on Ubuntu 16.04.1 (desktop;amd64).MotivationVLC requires a lot of 3rd party (contrib) packages. Hence, it is kind of difficult to build and run VLC. There are some vague tutorials, which (in my experience) all fail. At least for the Linux platform. There is neither a reference system for the VLC player. None. For no platform.Well, normally, you don't have to deal with such details: There are Linux packages for many distro available; which can be easily installed. However, if you got a problem and you want to get to the bottom of it, it will become very hard with such a package. The problem may be not reproducibe on other other system since your own installation might be quite unique (since there are so many libraries involved). This guide shows how to compile a (minimal) VLC system. This includes 3rd party tools and libraries.Note, there is the Linux-From-Scratch project, which also includes VLC. That's will build a whole Linux distribution from scratch.VLC on LinuxSuprisingly, it is quite difficult to build (compile) VLC. There are lots of required contrib packages. Even though the VLC source includes make-rules for those, the make-rules are destined for static contrib libs: VLC however requires shared libs. Also, make-rules for various contrib packages are missing (most notably Xorg). And there are (a few) faulty make-rules.Thus, this build will only include the most necessary libraries. So, what does a (basic) video player require?A video player (in general) needs (besides the video source):the facilities to display the visual contents, the facilities to play the audio contents, the codec and, optionally, some kind of user-interface to control the video playback.Linux (Ubuntu) already provides the kernel support and the runtime libraries to display (Xorg/XCB) and to play (ALSA) the video. VLC still needs the definitions (C-headers) to make use of them. You may install related Linux packages (on Ubuntu they have the postfix "devel"). However, here, we use the source tarballs. In order to decode the video contents, VLC makes use of FFMpeg (and a few more packages). These libraries have to be build before building VLC and to be supplied together with the VLC program (as runtime library). In order to interact with the video player (i.e. select file, fast forward, etc.) VLC offers several interfaces. Here we use Qt5. The Qt5 package makes up most of the download size and most of the build. Can VLC Play GIFs? How to Make GIF with VLC? Solved! Summary :

Make ringtones, extract subtitles, make split-screen video & more... Solution 2: Update VLC Media Player Outdated software can often lead to bugs and glitches, including the VLC pixelated playback issue. Make sure you have the latest version of VLC installed to ensure that you have all the latest fixes and improvements. To check for updates, go to Help > Check for Updates in the VLC menu. If an update is available, follow the prompts to install it. You can also go to official website and get the latest version: Solution 3: Disable Hardware-Accelerated Decoding Hardware-accelerated decoding is a feature that allows VLC to use the processing power of a computer's graphics processing unit (GPU) to decode video, rather than relying solely on the central processing unit (CPU). This can significantly improve the performance of VLC, especially when playing high-definition or high-bitrate video. However, depending on specific video codec, hardware and operating system, hardware-accelerated decoding may lead to VLC pixelated video playback. So, you can try to disable the feature to see if it will fix this: Run VLC > go to "Tools" menu and open "Preferences" > select the "Input & Codecs" tab. Under the "Codecs" section, you will find an option called "Hardware-accelerated decoding". Choose "Disable" in the drop-down list. Solution 4: Fast Forward or Backward the Video Another way to fix pixelated video playback in VLC is to try fast forwarding or rewinding the video. This can help to "reset" the video playback and force VLC to re-buffer the video, which can sometimes fix pixelation issues. You can drag the indicator back or front a couple of seconds along the progress bar and see if it works. Please be aware that this is a temporary solution, it cannot fix the VLC video pixelated issue permanently. Solution 5: Adjust the Video Output Settings Pixelated video playback can be caused by incorrect video output settings in VLC Player. You know what, VLC has multiple video output modules that can be used to improve playback quality. So, if the VLC pixelated issue persists, try changing the video output module to see if that fixes the problem. To do this, go to Tools > Preferences > Video, under the "Output" section, you can try changing the

Why and How to Fix VLC Won't Play DVD Errors Steps are simple but results are various, and even faulty. The VLC not playing DVD errors put users in an embarrassing situation. But we are here to get you out. Based on users' feedbacks, we've list four major errors while playing DVDs in VLC media player. Reasons and fixes for VLC not playing DVD are given in detail. 1. DVD read error. There are cases VLC won't read or play certain DVDs. Typically, the DVD disc or video_ts folder is always ejected, cannot open, and even nowhere to be found. This is down to the region code, DVD copy protections, and dust or scratch on DVD. So before playing a DVD with VLC, you need to: Make sure the physical disc is clean and intact, because dust and scratch on DVD will also lead to DVD read error. Make sure the disc playback is not restricted by parental control options. Make sure your DVD region code matches with that of your DVD drive. If not, change DVD region code (for at most 5 times) to fix it. Most shop-bought DVDs, such as Disney movie DVDs, are encrypted with a wide range of copy protection/encryption techs. To play copy-protected DVD with VLC you must install libdvdread, libdvdnav, and libdvdcss. Be noted that even you install libdvdcss for VLC, you still can't use VLC to play DVDs with advanced copyright protections like Sony ARccOS or Disney DRM. That's because libdvdcss for VLC can only help you handle CSS and region code protections. Consequently, you're suggested to rely on professional DVD protection removal software like WinX DVD Ripper to disable encryption from DVD disc if what you keep is strictly protected by more powerful encryption tech. 2. No Audio error. Some users
