Flashing and Erasing the SPITraditionally, booting Linux on the ROCK64 required an eMMC or microSD card, however it is now possible to boot without those, assuming the SPI memory has been flashed. The ROCK64 contains an onboard 128Mbit SPI flash memory, which can be flashed with U-Boot in order to provide additional boot options:USB2 / USB3 drivePXEmicroSDeMMC1. Write the U-Boot imageDownload the latest u-boot-flash-spi.img.xz imageWrite it to a microSD card using dd or Etcher bs=1M"># From Linux or macOSxz -k -d -c -v -T 3 u-boot-flash-spi.img.xz | dd of=/dev/sdcard> bs=1MMake sure you write to the correction location, it will destroy all data.2. Boot the ROCK64Insert the microSD cardWait for it to boot. It will automatically erase the SPI memory, and flash U-BootYou should see: the power LED (white LED) flicker once per second, and:SF: ... bytes @ 0x8000 Written: OKRemove the microSD card3. Fix for SPI Flashing failuresIf, for any reason, your SPI flashing gets interrupted during its process, you may experience a "frozen" device. To solve this, on the Rock64 follow these instructions:Go to this guide to create a new ayufan bootable Linux SD cardOr, in short, download the latest ayufan Linux distribution from here, and use etcher to flash you SD cardInsert the SD card to the Rock64.Connect other peripherals such as network to later control your device, such as via ssh.ayufan’s Linux distro will connect to the network and you will be able to ssh to the device.Ground the SPI Clock (SPI_CLK_M2) on the Pi-2 Bus GPIO pins on the rock64Pin 23 is SPI_CLK_M2Pin 25 is GNDPin layout of the rock64 can be found hereOther Rock64 documents can be found hereTurn on the device and release the grounding of the SPI Clock 2-3 seconds after the device was turned on.NOTE: This is a critical stepIf not done correctly you will not be able to flash the deviceIf unsuccessful turn of the device and try again.login and go to the folder with the flashing scriptscd /usr/local/sbinsudo ./rock64_erase_spi_flash.sh or sudo ./rock64_write_spi_flash.shType "YES" to flash the deviceIf the flashing failes with an error loader partition on MTD is not found repeat step 5.Your device should now be able to boot without holding the SPI Clock.. NOTE: YOU SHOULD NOT USE THISI simply wanted to have a copy of Mark's classic flashblockplugin. There are better, more flexible detects available now (modernizr beings my favorite). This is a pure-JavaScript library that detects whether Flash is blocked on the current page due to a Flash blocking extension. The current version can detect FlashBlock #1 for Chromium / Google Chrome (Windows/Mac/Linux) FlashBlock #2 for Chromium / Google Chrome (Windows/Mac/Linux) FlashBlock for Firefox (Windows/Mac/Linux) ClickToFlash 1.5.x (Mac/Safari only) See the live demo This library does not interfere with, or try to counteract, any Flash blocking extensions. It simply tells you whether a blocker is active on your page. Note: if the user has a Flash blocker but has whitelisted your site, the library will (correctly) say that Flash is not blocked. Because some Flash blockers are not instantaneous, this library inserts some dummy Flash objects into the page and then waits for up to 5 seconds to see if they get blocked. To use the library, you must give it a callback function. If a Flash blocker is active, your callback function will be called almost immediately. If no Flash blocker is active, your callback function will be called after the 5 second timeout. Your callback function should take a single boolean parameter, which will be true if a Flash blocker is active, or false otherwise. The library cleans up after itself, so there should be no remnants of its dummy Flash objects in the DOM by the time your callback function is called. Example usage: src=" my_callback_function(flash_is_blocked) { if (flash_is_blocked) { /* ... do whatever you like ... */ } else { /* ... do something else, or nothing ... */ }}For best performance, put this script at the bottom of your page, not at the top. Installing Kali on a Raspberry Pi The Raspberry Pi is a great platform for running Kali Linux. In fact, Kali actually makes a version specifically for the Raspberry Pi. In this tutorial we'll go over choosing the right version of kali to download, and how to flash it to a micro sd card. This tutorial will work for the Raspberry Pi 2, 3, 4, and the 400. This tutorial will also work for other compatible linux distros, such as Parrot OS, and Ubuntu. Getting Started To get started we will need two things, the Kali file, and a program to flash it to an sd card. Lets start with choosing the right version of Kali to download. Head over to kali.org and click on Download. Once you get to the downloads page you'll see a few different options. For the Raspberry Pi you'll want to choose the ARM version. You'll notice that there are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Techniqually you will get better performance from the 64-bit version, but the 32-bit version has been avilable longer and is better tested. I perfer using the 32-bit version and in my experience it has been extremely stable. Choose the one that suits you and click on it to download. You'll notice that the download will be saved with a ".img.xz" file extention. This may look a little odd but it is the correct format for a linux image that can be flashed. Now that we have the linux image we are going to flash, we need a program to actually flash it onto an sd card. Luckly, there are some free programs that will do it for us. BalenaEtcher is a free open source program for flashing, and it's available for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Visit balena.io/etcher and download the version for your operating system. Flashing the file Once you have downloaded and installed Etcher you are ready to flash Kali. Go ahead and connect the sd card that you want to put Kali on and connect it to your computer. Open Etcher up and select flash from file. Select the. Download Flash Optimizer for Linux latest version for Linux free to try. 2025-04-17September 30, 2015, 6:35pm 66 No, v1 drivers are for all BayTrail systems whereas v2 drivers are for all Braswell/CherryTrail systems. jones23 September 30, 2015, 9:23pm 67 turns out that the 1.1.x driver package installs the same old driver.and manually updating the firmware doesn’t seem to be possible as the thinkpad 8 isn’t unlocked, from what i can tell. There have only been 3 TXE 1.x driver releases since 2013:1.0.0.1050, 1.0.0.1054 & 1.1.0.1064At Device Manager > System Devices > Intel Trusted Execution Engine you should see the driver version of 1.1.0.1064. That’s the latest, generally TXE very rarely has driver updates.Any TXE 1.x system can be upgraded to latter minor releases so 1.0 → 1.1 → 1.2. However, the minor version upgrade requires an unlocked flash descriptor and then custom work with Flash Image Tool and Flash Programming Tool flashing. To detect is the flash descriptor is unlocked (almost never is on tablets) you can run fptw -d spi.bin command via Flash Programming Tool. If you get Error 26 then you have a locked flash descriptor and nothing more can be done via software solutions. Arise October 22, 2015, 7:46pm 69 Where can I download: Intel TXE System Tools v1.0?
