You can find snakes on almost every continent in the world. As a result, human beings are bound to cross paths with a snake or two. Most of the time, nothing comes from these interactions. Yet occasionally, you might stumble across a venomous snake at the wrong time. The resulting bites can be deadly. There have been 107 such bites in the U.S., most occurring in July as cold-blooded reptiles become more active in the warmer weather. Decreasing the odds of survival is the cost of treatment. Anti-venom costs around $2,500 per vial. One victim received eight vials of antivenom, yet still died. Even if you survive your first bite, your chances of doing so a second time decrease dramatically.Of these deadly snake bites, one species has been the source of more bites than any other, including many of the youngest victims, which you can explore on the map below.View Fatal Snake Bites in the U.S. in a full screen mapDeadliest Snake: Fatal Rattlesnake BitesTimber RattlesnakeOf the 107 fatal U.S. snake bites on the map, Rattlesnake bites account for nearly 80% of deaths, with Copperheads and Cobras as the next most. Sixteen people in the U.S. have been bitten and subsequently died from these bites. Most took place in either Georgia (4) or West Virginia (3), seeing as Timber Rattlesnakes mostly reside in the Eastern U.S.Several Timber Rattlesnake victims were bitten during church service, during “snake handling,” when snakes are voluntarily passed around among the congregants. Though laws exist to prevent this religious rite, one man was bitten as recently as 2015 during a religious service at a Pentecostal Church in Jenson, Kentucky. He refused treatment and died in his brother’s home. Three others also died under similar circumstances, all at the hands—or fangs—of the Timber Rattlesnake.Additionally, there are seven deathly Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake bites, along with Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (3), Southern Pacific, Prairie, and Mojave Rattlesnake (2 each). By Danielle NiemanThese pretzel bites made with biscuit dough taste like authentic pretzels but are better because they’re softer and a little flaky! Not only are these Biscuit Pretzel Bites insanely delicious, but they are also so easy to make! You’ll only need five simple ingredients: Pillsbury Grands Flaky Biscuits, some water, baking soda, melted butter, and coarse salt. If you are like me, I was skeptical that biscuit dough could taste anywhere near a pretzel, but that is why the bites of dough are soaked in hot water with baking soda for around a minute. Trust me, you’ll be amazed! This original recipe is from the Vita Ice website, with a few modifications. I served my bites with my 3-ingredient honey mustard sauce, which was AMAZING. Of course, they taste great plain, too!Ingredients You’ll Need:1 Can of Pillsbury Grands! Flaky Layer Biscuits (includes eight biscuits)2 Cups of Hot Water1/4 Cup Baking Soda3 tbsp Butter, melted.Coarse SaltEquipment Needed:Sharp KnifeMeasuring CupsMixing BowlBaking SheetParchment PaperBasting Brush (optional but is great for adding the melted butter on top of the bite)Slotted Spoon (optional but helps to remove the dough bites from the hot water)OvenHow To Make Biscuit Pretzel Bites, Step-By-StepStep 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Step 2: Remove the biscuits from the can. Using a sharp knife, cut each biscuit into four pieces. Roll each piece gently into a ball and score (a shallow crisscross cut) the top of each bite.Step 3: Fill a bowl with 2 cups of hot water and add the baking soda. Mix well. Step 4: Add half of the batch of pretzel bites to the hot water for about one minute. Remove using a slotted spoon (this helps to drain off the water). Place the bites of dough onto the lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining half of the batch. You should have 32 bites. Step 5: Brush melted butter onto each bite. Lastly, sprinkle the coarse salt onto each one.Step 6: Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.*Serve28 Itrack Bites BB ideas

Cellulitis is a bacterial infection of the skin that can develop from a mosquito or other bug bite. Scratching an insect bite breaks the skin, which allows Streptococcus (staph), Staphylococcus aureus (strep), or other bacteria to get into the dermis of the skin. Signs of cellulitis include swelling and flu-like symptoms. People with pre-existing conditions are at greater risk for developing cellulitis and complications However, cellulitis can be prevented and easily treated with at-home care and prescription antibiotics. Janosa Kerekes / Getty Images Cellulitis is a very common bacterial infection affecting more than 14 million Americans each year. Bacteria normally live on the surface of the skin, but if you have a cut or tear in your skin, the bacteria can travel under the top layer to the dermis, the middle layer of skin, between the epidermis and subcutaneous tissue. Once in the dermis, it can cause inflammation and an infection. This is more common among people at risk for infections, including those with health issues such as:History of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)DiabetesPeripheral artery diseaseHIV/AIDSTaking corticosteroids How Infected Mosquito Bites Cause Cellulitis Bug bites also put you at risk for cellulitis because the itch of bites leads to scratching that breaks open the skin, letting in strep, staph, or other types of bacteria. Insects don’t carry the bacteria that cause cellulitis, so you don't get the infection directly from the bug. Instead, the infection is a result of trying to ease the discomfort caused by the bug bite.In addition to bug bites, cellulitis can be caused by:Animal bites, including cat and dog bitesTattoos or piercingsIntravenous drug use Recent surgery or injury leading to cuts or ulcersChronic skin conditions including athlete’s foot and eczemaChickenpox or shingles Symptoms of Cellulitis If an infected insect bite leads to cellulitis, you’ll notice symptoms possibly. Lawn & Garden No-see-ums are an irritating nuisance both indoors and out. But how does one deal with a barely visible pest? Here’s how to get rid of no- see-ums. Photo: depositphotos.com We may earn revenue from the products available on this page and participate in affiliate programs. Learn More › When the weather gets warmer, no-see-ums can be found outdoors—and sometimes indoors, too. Despite being almost microscopic, no-see-ums will quickly make their presence known primarily by leaving itchy bites that can turn into painful welts. Also referred to as biting midges, biting gnats, or sand flies, no-see-ums can be quite a nuisance, but measures can be taken to eradicate them from a property and prevent them from coming back. Here’s what to know about how to get rid of no-see-ums.Time required: A couple of months to fully eradicate an infestation, as treatment is reapplied every 3 weeksDifficulty: Intermediate Tools & Materials Bobvila.com may earn a commission from purchases made through these links. What are no-see-ums, and what do they look like?Photo: depositphotos.comSimilar to mosquitoes (though smaller), no-see-ums are bloodsucking pests that lay eggs in moist, warm areas and bite humans, pets, and livestock. As their name suggests, no-see-ums are difficult to detect due to their size, often leaving behind lots of bites but no signs of bugs. However, their physical differences set them apart from mosquitoes and other disease-carrying pests. At about ⅛ inch in length, no-see-ums are gray or black flying bugs that are difficult to identify by sight. They leave large and uncomfortable bumps on their victims that last longer than typical mosquito bites. What do no-see-um bites look like?No-see-ums leave behind irritating bites that look like small red dots on the skin, similar to mosquito bites. These bumps occur when the insect bites into the skin and injects its saliva, causing annoyingly itchy or sometimes outright painful bites. These clusters of lesions can linger for upwards of 2 weeks, transforming into raised welts much larger than when they first appeared. Before You Begin…While a no-see-um infestation is more likely to happen outdoors, indoor infestations can occur in wet areas of the home, such as a bathroom, the kitchen, or in leaking areas. For those dealing with a no-see-um infestation, it’s vital to promptly take action to avoid making the situation worse. Here are a few considerations to keep in mind before getting started with no-see-um removal.Safety ConsiderationsStay protected from no-see-um bites by wearing light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and long pants—dark-colored clothing is said to be a draw for these pests. While it’s rare in the United States, no-see-ums can carry diseases that can be passed on to humans when bitten, such as Bartonella. Using insect repellent can deter no-see- ums, and therefore help prevent the transfer of diseases.Keep family, pets, and landscaping protected by ensuring all products and solutions used for no-see-um eradication are safe. Avoid harsh chemicals that cannot safely be administered.STEP 1: Eliminate no-see-um hot spots in the yard by removing standing water. No-see-ums are drawn to moisture—and where there’sComments
