Beaten Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and party to it by bringing my own burger and fries to feast on — outside the establishment. While we’re on the issue of New York food tripping, I was wondering why no one bothered to raise sanitary concerns when P-Noy and his delegation had hotdogs from ambulant vendors in Manhattan. Even if I’m never picky with food, I’m still particular when it comes to hygiene.More than a decade ago, I lost my appetite for those hotdogs and pretzels being sold in New York streets after an American TV show exposed how the vendors of those food items don’t exactly practice strict sanitary habits (no running water in those food carts!). Obviously, no one told P-Noy about that.Good for P-Noy, his esophagus made it through. But be careful next time, Mr. President. As for the regular Pinoy traveler to the US, there are various ways to save on dollars by going on a PG food tripping. You only have to be more resourceful and have a sense of humor.Next time you fly to New York, go to Sardi’s and pack with you an egg sandwich.

October 21, 2010 | 12:00am Contributor Ricardo Pamintuan’s Lifestyle article last week on food tripping in America made me relish in my head those gustatory challenges I went through living and vacationing in the US. I use the word challenge because when I’m there, I usually am on a hand-to-mouth existence.Everything boils down to the fact that I do the opposite of what Filipinos living in the US always tell vacationing relatives and friends from the Philippines: To enjoy your stay in the land of plenty that is America, never convert. I therefore should stop whining about how I have to shell out $2 for a bottle of cranberry juice that makes it more than P88 when I can get Gatorade here for P20-plus something. I don’t even check the price of Gatorade in Manila. I just drink up.There were episodes in my life in America, however, when I didn’t even have money — or had too little of it — to convert. When the exchange rate was still P26:$1, I could still afford to pamper myself and remember paying in 1995 $28 for an order of crispy pata from a Pinoy restaurant called Toto’s in Glendale, California. I was treating out cousins in LA and they wanted Filipino food and so I got them that — although at the back of my head I kept telling myself: I just blew almost P800 on crispy pata!By the time the exchange rate had ballooned to P38:$1 and, later, at P55:$1, I became even more determined to hang on to my precious dollars. Maybe that’s the reason why I’m still here even if I’m a US immigrant. Flying to the US is now just purely for vacations. But I’ve already collected a treasure trove of memories — plus tips on how to do food tripping in the US — PG style, PG as in patay-gutom.As a kid, I would die a thousand times every time my mother would pack snacks for out-of-town trips (during a Baguio vacation with my then teenage brother and an aunt, she brought adobo that they ate at the hotel morning, noon and night).I only realized the value of bringing your own baon when I started working — at 17 — and I discovered for myself that money is not something you just pick up along the way. You work for it — and so save a great part

A ghost town with a lively twist—a historic Route 66 stop where the Wild West meets modern-day charm. Once a booming gold mining town in the early 1900s, Oatman thrived until the mines ran dry in the 1920s. Unlike many ghost towns, Oatman never fully faded; its historic buildings now house quirky shops and eateries, including the haunted Oatman Hotel Restaurant & Bar. Visitors are treated to daily Wild West-style gunfight reenactments and the delightful company of wild burros that roam the streets, keeping this Old West gem as vibrant as ever.60. Roy’s Motel & CafeRoy’s Motel and Café in Amboy, California, is a must-see piece of Route 66 history. This once-thriving desert oasis is slowly being restored, with its towering neon sign and massive Route 66 shield on the road still drawing travelers in. While the motel and café aren’t fully operational, Roy’s offers a nostalgic glimpse into the golden days of road tripping.61. Elmer’s Bottle Tree RanchElmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch is a magical blend of artistry and roadside charm. Created by Elmer Long starting in the early 2000s, this whimsical forest of “trees” made from glass bottles and vintage odds and ends glimmers in the desert sun. Quirky and enchanting, it’s a one-of-a-kind stop that embodies the unexpected allure of Route 66.62. Cucamonga Service StationThe Cucamonga Service Station in Rancho Cucamonga is a beautifully restored relic of Route 66’s early days. Originally built in 1915, this historic gas station was abandoned for years before being transformed into a museum in 2015. It now serves as a tribute to the golden era of road travel, offering visitors a chance to step back in time.63. Original McDonald’s MuseumThe Original McDonald’s Museum in San Bernardino is a fast-food lover’s dream and a slice of Route 66 history. Located at the site

20 amp circuit capacity typically found in your kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms and garage. Adding an extension cord brings that potential danger out from the wall and into your living spaces. Then there’s the tripping hazard. It might sound minor next to fire or shock, but tripping over an extension cord sends people to the ER every year too! Of course, extension cords are here to stay, and they can be useful tools. You just need to keep safety and common sense top of mind. The advice below will help you do just that.Extension cord safety tipsSusan Vineyard/Getty ImagesEveryone needs to use an extension cord from time to time. Without them, we’d be limited to the 3-foot cord that nearly every portable tool or appliance comes equipped with—no thanks. And without an extension cord, how would you bring additional lighting and sound to your backyard patio party or that project you’re working on out in the shed?Extension cords can be great tools for temporary power needs. The keyword here is temporary, something reflected in many of the tips below.Unplug extension cords when not in useWhen an extension cord is plugged in, it is a literal extension of the wall outlet. That means it’s “live” or “hot” all the way from the wall to the end of the cord. If you have nothing plugged into the cord, it’s just a needless hazard serving no legitimate purpose. Kids could see it as something to play with; pets might treat it as an interesting new chew toy. Plus, you could trip on it!As soon as you’re done with an extension cord, unplug it and coil it safely away.Don’t run extension cords under rugs or carpetsIt’s tempting to run an extension cord under an area rug, especially if you don’t have a floor outlet and your couch is in the middle of the living room, like mine. You might think it’s a better alternative than seeing (and tripping on) an ugly extension cord. It’s not. Cords running under carpeting and rugs are major fire hazards because they can overheat, and if they get damaged. Food Trip Cavite, Bacoor, Cavite. 749 likes 1 was here. Fully to the off position, then flip it back to the on position. This ensures the breaker is properly reset. Unplug Devices and Appliances Unplug all devices and appliances connected to the affected circuit. This helps exclude an overload as the cause of the tripping. After unplugging every device and appliance, try resetting the breaker again. Inspect for Visible Damage Check all outlets, plugs, and cords on the circuit for any signs of damage, such as melted insulation, discoloration, smoke, or burn marks. If you find any damage, you need to repair it before resetting the breaker. Check for Tripped GFCI Outlets Look for any tripped Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets on the circuit. These outlets usually feature reset buttons, and they can trip independently of the main breaker. Reset any tripped GFCI outlets and then try resetting the breaker again. Examine for Loose Wiring or Corrosion If you feel comfortable and it’s safe to do so, inspect the breaker panel for loose connections or signs of corrosion. Loose or corroded wires can prevent the breaker from resetting properly. Tighten any loose connections and address any corrosion issues. When to Call a Professional Electrician for Circuit Breaker Issues Knowing when to call a professional electrician can save you from potential hazards and ensure your electrical system functions safely. Here are some common signs your circuit breaker needs to be replaced or require professional care: Persistent tripping: If the circuit breaker tripped and will not reset after troubleshooting, it indicates a deeper issue that needs expert attention. Signs of damage: Burn marks, a burning smell, or visible damage around the breaker panel are clear indicators that something is wrong. Lack of experience: If you’re uncomfortable or inexperienced with electrical systems, it’s best to prioritize safety and call a professional. Hot
