In a breakthrough discovery, scientists have found the most distant quasar yet known — and it's home to a seriously supermassive black hole. Astronomers led by researchers at the University of Arizona spotted the brilliant quasar about 13.03 billion light-years from Earth. Quasars are among the brightest objects in the universe, quasars are luminous, active galactic nuclei powered by supermassive black holes that are actively feeding on nearby material. When this material gets sucked in, quasars release ultra-bright beams of electromagnetic radiation. Scientists suspect that these glowing, ultramassive objects could actually be an evolutionary stage for some galaxies. In fact, scientists estimate that, on average, this particular quasar's black hole ingests an amount of mass equivalent to 25 suns every year. This quasar, called J0313-1806, can be dated back to just 670 million years after the Big Bang (the universe at this time was a mere 5% of its current age), making it the most distant and earliest quasar ever found. This quasar also hosts a supermassive black hole that has a mass equal to 1.6 billion of our suns. The Universe: From the Big Bang to now in 10 easy stepsThis artistic visualization shows J0313-1806, the most distant (and therefore earliest) quasar ever found. (Image credit: NOIRLab/NSF/AURA/J. da Silva)A record-breaking quasarWhile this newfound quasar is astoundingly old and far away, the team's observations also showed evidence that there is a wind of super-heated gas flowing from around the galaxy's supermassive black hole, with this gas traveling at one fifth the speed of light, according to a statement. If this strong quasar-driven wind coming from the most distant quasar ever spotted wasn't interesting enough, the team also found extremely active star formation activity in the galaxy holding the quasar. J0313-1806 is estimated to create about 200 solar masses every single year, compared to our Milky Way's one solar mass per year, according to the statement. Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!"This is a relatively high star formation rate, similar to that observed in other quasars of similar age, and it tells us the host galaxy is growing very fast," lead author Feige Wang, a Hubble Fellow at the University of Arizona's Steward Observatory, said in the same statement.Quasar investigationNow, because of their close relationship, scientists think that, by studying quasars, they can learn more about how the objects came to be and how supermassive black holes really behave. While this quasaris only 20 million light-years farther from Earth than the one that last held the title of "farthest quasar," the new record-holder's supermassive black hole is about twice as heavy as that of its predecessor. This detail could change how scientists understand the relationship between these supermassive, super-bright cosmic objects. "This is the earliest evidence of how a supermassive black hole is affecting its host galaxy around it," Wang said. "From observations of less distant galaxies, we know that this has to happen, but we have never seen it happening so early inDistant Suns Special Edition 6.0 Build 5 - Softpedia

Grounded. Posted Nov. 26, 2024, 3:22 p.m. 2K Games has pulled its launcher from all its PC games as part of a “complete sunset” of the software, which means PC gamers can now launch all 2K games directly in Steam. The 2K Launcher was forced upon players of the company’s PC games, including Firaxis’ Civilization 5, Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition, and XCOM 2. Following an update this month, the 2K Launcher is removed from every game that used it on Epic and Steam. 2K also removed the 2K Launcher Beta, a completely separate launcher, from Civilization 5.This means Bioshock Remastered, Bioshock 2 Remastered, Bioshock Infinite, The Quarry, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns will now all launch directly into the game as soon as you click Play. The Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition games on Steam and the Mafia Trilogy Definitive Edition games on Epic each have slightly different paths to getting into the games.Civilization 6 on Steam had the launcher removed earlier this year, so no additional steps are needed. But for Civilization 6 for Epic, it now directly opens into the game when launched from Epic. Civilization 5, meanwhile, now uses the Steam Launch options to open the game.XCOM 2 for Steam is a special case, 2K said, as the launcher included Mod support functionality. Of note, these changes will let you enable mods on the Steam Deck. XCOM 2 on Epic will now open the Original XCOM 2 Mod Launcher. XCOM: Chimera Squad also has the Mod launcher as optional, with a secondary option available to directly launch the game. Mods are also available on Steam Deck for Chimera Squad. In a blog post, 2K said it had replaced the 2KLauncher folder with a text file called 2kLauncherRemoved.txt, which can be safely deleted. A few seconds of scanning. That will give you it's orbit path (yellow line) – fly out to the orbit line and then reverse course to the opposite orbit line in order to travel in the plane of the orbit, occasionally hitting scan. By the time I get to the opposite line I'm going very fast and that is a great help in showing relative motion of distant objects Exploration – often you can see an obvious group of bright things or a sun on the plane – hit the scan button often – mostly I've found the additional suns are located on the same plane as the principal stars orbit. But once or twice Iv'e turned at right angles to the orbital plane to search successfully – travelling fast I change direction laterally, (using only the keyboard left/right keys because if I use the joystick it's too easy to move up or down slightly) to orbit the principal outside of its plane. I keep the yellow orbit line visible from the left window, and then look for relative movement in the star field. Mostly it's fairly obvious but it's necessary to go pretty far out sometimes to find the most distant. And very high speed becomes very necessary – because I am travelling in parallel, and in the plane of the system principal, then anything out there should be moving against the background. For difficult ones I point outward more and switch my view to the left side window as well, so I can see the yellow line – if you are in doubt whether you are going the right way, look at your speed. After you get half way to the distant spot your speed will start to decay, and confirms you are heading towards another mass. Strange that the game does this as you would expect the gravitational pull to increase your speed. But it's a handy dodge. Fastest I have been so far before the speed started to decay was about 850c – sometimes a second sun can be orbiting so close to the first that it is masked. Look at the first very closely occasionally to make sure it is perfectly circular – after todays server patch it all seems to be working better eg. targeting, less unknowns – dont go close to or scan unknowns unless they are earth like in the system map.Distant Suns Special Edition para Windows - CNET Download
Tyranids to their location. Soon they are surrounded. Warriors to the end, the White Scars sell their lives dearly. Their sacrifice draws Hydra's swarms away from Haadekh's equatorial cities, giving the Imperium time to evacuate key personnel.Triumph To Disaster (Unknown Date.M41) - After solar months of campaigning, the armies of Lord General Syvar Daeus turn back a tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan from the borders of the Corilanus System. In his honour a great Imperial Triumph is held on the planet of Ollfyre. Just as Daeus' legions reach the Plaza of Fallen Heroes, shadows begin to fall across the millions of onlookers. Looking up, the terrified populace sees its doom approaching -- countless spores darken the skies, and beyond that vast, organic shapes drift into orbit, blocking the light from Corilanus' binary suns. The Hydra has come, drawn by the death throes of its defeated kin.Traits[]Hive Fleet Hydra's prodigious generative capability stretches to the very least of its bio-organisms. Even lowly slimer maggots possess the capability to multiply with terrifying speed, infesting the flesh of their victims. The bioforms of Hive Fleet Hydra have purple and black carapaces.Sources[]Codex: Tyranids (5th Edition), pg. 38Codex: Tyranids (6th Edition), pg. 31Codex: Tyranids (8th Edition), pg. 35Warhammer 40,000: Rulebook (5th Edition), pg. 137Warhammer 40,000: Rulebook (8th Edition), pg. 166.
