Cipafilter authentication clients provide a mechanism for silent and transparent network authentication, making it possible to filter users according to their domain credentials without forcing them to log in directly via their browser. The authentication clients enable targeted, group-based filtering of users who are otherwise not authorized to authenticate devices foreign to the network, and they satisfy the "required authentication" subnet option. Anyone still desperately clinging to Windows XP only has another six months of updates for Chrome. Google has decided that the time has finally come to sever ties with the ancient operating system, and the same applies to Vista and OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.Just as Microsoft has stopped issuing updates for Windows XP, so too has Google set a cut-off point of April 2016 for Chrome support on older OSes. These versions of Windows and OS X have been dropped by Microsoft and Apple, so it makes sense that other companies will move on as well. But as well as not getting new versions of Chrome, there will also be no more security updates.Google says that using such old operating systems runs a far greater risk of virus and malware infection. The company is as keen as Microsoft and Apple that people move with the times and upgrade their operating system. Vista is the only one of the five operating systems that remains supported by the company behind it (until April 2017, believe it or not).Writing on the Chrome Blog, Google says:Today, we're announcing the end of Chrome's support for Windows XP, as well as Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, since these platforms are no longer actively supported by Microsoft and Apple. Starting April 2016, Chrome will continue to function on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes.If you are still on one of these unsupported platforms, we encourage you to move to a newer operating system to ensure that you continue to receive the latest Chrome versions and features.Photo credit: 360b / Shutterstock

Google and its partners announced the first Chrome OS tablets in spring 2018. While the browser-based operating system has been running on notebooks, all-in-one devices, and desktop PCs for years, Google has slowly optimized it for touch. By now, Chrome OS is running on several convertible notebooks and a couple of tablets.Chrome OS is becoming more and more interesting as a tablet operating system since Google started to support the Play Store and Android apps. On almost all Chrome OS devices sold these days you can use most Android apps from the Play Store – with a lot of them being optimized for tablets. However, as of now, Chromebooks are mostly targeted to the education markets and are not widely available worldwide yet.The first Chrome OS tablet announced is the Acer Chromebook Tab 10. It supports a Wacom stylus but resembles most Android tablets and the standard iPad. However, with the HP Chromebook x2, we get a 12.3-inch tablet with a keyboard dock, that directly competes with higher-end Windows tablets like the Microsoft Surface Pro. Android devices are not capable of competing with those as of now.Chrome OS For Tablets: Better Than Android?Compared to Android, Chrome OS has two major advantages.
