This wizard-based installer streamlines the initial installation process, while letting you choose the initial 'flavor' of the installation, in terms of installed functionality.This article takes a look at the procedure for installing Altium Designer on a computer.Each major version of Altium Designer is released as a separate full installation with unique default installation paths. This allows for side-by-side installation with other major released versions of the software. While it is possible to update to the next point release within a version 'stream', it is not possible to update from one version stream to the next, later version stream.Pre-Install PreparationTo access the Altium Designer Installer, you need to first download and run a small (approx. 11.3MB) executable – AltiumDesignerSetup.exe. This executable is downloaded from the Downloads page of the Altium website, and can be saved anywhere on your hard disk.Each version of the software has its own dedicated installer.Running the InstallerDouble-click the AltiumDesignerSetup.exe file. The Altium Designer Installer welcome page will appear. Initial welcome page for the Altium Designer Installer.The installer itself is wizard-based, providing a set of progressive (and intuitive) pages that collectively gather the information to effectively install the version of the software, and its initial feature set, as you require.Click Next to continue. The following sections provide a summary of the various pages you will encounter.License AgreementThis page of the Installer presents you with the Altium End-User License Agreement (EULA). Read and accept Altium's End-User License Agreement.Before you can continue with the installation of the software, you must read through, and accept, the terms of this agreement. The agreement can be viewed in different languages, including English (the default), German, Chinese and Japanese.Clicking the Advanced button will access an Advanced Settings pop-up window. From here, you are able to specify proxy-settings, if applicable. Click OK to effect any changes and return to the License Agreement page. Specify the use of basic authentication using proxy settings, as part of advanced options for the install.With the EULA read, continue with the install by checking the I accept the agreement box and clicking the Next button.Installation ModeIf you already have Altium Designer installed, and are running the installer for a subsequent point release within the same version stream (e.g. installing Altium Designer 17.0.x, and Altium Designer 17.0.x-1 is already installed), an additional page of the Altium Designer Installer wizard will be available - Installation Mode. This page gives you the choice of either updating an existing version instance of Altium Designer, or installing as a separate new version instance. Choose the New installation option to maintain separate version instances of

Altium 365 Platform Interface. With the package selected or currently being viewed, use the button to open the Sharing window where re-sharing can be applied, if you have sufficient privileges to do so. Note that the Advanced Settings and the ability to share with an organization are available to members of the 'source' Workspace only – the Workspace where the package is shared from. Downloading the Build PackageThe full release package can be downloaded from any of the pages within the Manufacturing Package Viewer (except the Structure area, where downloads are 'single file'):This downloads a single Zip archive containing a folder for each data set included in the package, which can then be passed to manufacturing to fabricate and assemble the board. The ability to download the package will depend on whether the author of the package has enabled that setting for you or not. A build package can also be downloaded from within the Shared with Me page of the Altium 365 Platform Interface. Selecting a manufacturing package tile will present various controls and commands. Click the control and choose the Download command, or click the button (at the top-right of the page), to download the package as a Zip archive.Deleting a Shared Manufacturing PackageYou can delete any manufacturing package that has been shared with you, and is currently presented on the Shared with Me page of the Altium 365 Platform Interface. To do so, select the manufacturing package tile, click the control, and then choose the Delete command. A warning window will appear alerting you to the fact that the package will be permanently deleted – you will no longer have access to it, but other collaborators will continue to have access. The generated report includes all necessary debug information in one tidy Zip archive (*.zip). This is all that's needed to send to Altium Developers, should you have any unexpected technical difficulties with your Altium Vault.For a far more powerful, dashboard-style tool, that you can use to interrogate the health of your Vault installation yourself, look to the Altium Vault Health Monitor. This standalone tool provides a visual summary of the state of the host machine, the Vault storage system and the Vault Services. The tool also includes context related hints, information and paths to important locations and log files, which allows Vault Administrators to preemptively detect and resolve any issues that may affect Vault users.
