Not sure about system font conflict, except that Apple Typography has your back. San Francisco does get updated regularly. In my experience, when it updates in a major way, then Apple auto searches any machine containing the download and deletes it, so that it does not conflict. Or sometimes you might want to reinstall OS X depending, whatever. This will be my fourth download since El Capitan, and second download on this Sierra Mac Pro. After my mockup is complete, right click in FontBook and Remove. If you are not developing, you really don't need this download, because the font is everywhere on your device. Once added in Fontbook they should be active by default. You can simply check this by opening FontBook Hello, I have about 1400 fonts in fontbook. Most of them are turned off, however one very large collection/library of fonts always shows up in the menu as activated (Pages, entourage, indesign), making for some very slow loading times and unnecessarily lengthy menus. Furthermore, my basic system Times doesn't show up in InDesign (though fontbook says it's enabled, and it's in the system menu, so it should be always on). I went through a series of "fixes" about a week ago, but now it's all back (the resurgent problem corresponded with an Apple software update, but that might be a coincidence). I have read the Kurt Lang article (font mgmt in osx), and I've tried the steps in "undoing font book." all to no avail. I could buy a font manager besides font book, but I teach in a computer lab that only has fontbook, so I'd like to keep a parallel system if possible (but that's looking less possible at the moment--I hate to think how many hours I've wasted on this so far) FYI, I have no fonts in home:library:fonts. I have 38 fonts in user:library:fonts. I haven't touched the system fonts. All others fonts are in separate folders accessed by fontbook. I'm using OS 10.5.8 Any help would be appreciated. thanks KenComments

2025-04-19This one reason I like PCs better than Macs. When I was using Macs, I found it better to use a Font Manager application versus using Fontbook. Fontbook is the worst. Suitcase Fusion I was using the old version of Suitecase and it was great. I could turn fonts on and fonts off easily. Also it can handle thousands and thousands of fonts. I think on my Mac I had 7000 fonts or so. The version I had allowed me to set up folders and organize fonts however I wanted. So I could set up a folder for Old West Style fonts, Asian style fonts, thin line fonts, etc. What ever I wanted. Then I could easily find the fonts I wanted to 'activate'. And if I did not want them activated I simply could deactivate them.Totally recommend trying out a Font Manager. I am not sure what the best one is now.... but it is worth looking into. Fontbook might have gotten better, but I think you will find a Font Manager application better to work with! And there are some good free ones out there.
