Thule Easybase. Opinions?Jazzy Jag Original Poster3,494 posts102 monthsWednesday 6th September 2017I'm planning a Euro road trip next year with 6 adults in the Disco Sport.To add luggage space I am considering the Thule Easybase and Back up box.As it's a lease car that is changed every 6 months, spending over a grand on the roof rails which will have to stay on the car, a roof rack is not an option.HAs anyone else used an Easybase?What stops it sagging down/ moving on the tow ball and dragging along the road?I really don't want to end up in Italy with a rack that has brewers droop and no way of getting the family and kit home again.Jazzy Jag Original Poster3,494 posts102 monthsFriday 8th September 2017FBP1509 posts160 monthsFriday 8th September 2017Hello Billy no mates 😜,I can't directly help with the easybase, but we have a 4 bike Thule bike rack equivalent that sits on the towball of the wife's Renault Grand Espace and it's very good. It's also much better for fuel consumption being hidden behind the car rather than on top.We've gone all over the place (Ireland, France, etc) with 4 full size and not light mountain bikes sitting back there and nothing other than a very occasional creak when I've completely forgotten that it's all hanging out the back as it were and attacked speed bumps with some gusto. Driven at 100 plus on autoroutes with no problem.The lockable clamp that locks down over the towball takes quite a lot

Other on Gumtree for sensible prices.A quick search near me throws up this 25th February 2021Hi all, know this is an old post - Just a few questions about the Thule Easybase 949, would be grateful if people could answer:- Are parking spaces ok size wise?I've a 2009 RAV4- The bike attachments are 'discontinued' by ThuleHas anyone modified the base to carry bikes? and if so can you post some photos please?- Is the 45kg only guidance for noseweight or is it the welds that are only tested to 45kg?My RAV noseweight is 85kgCheersDjmceFriday 26th February 2021I modified mine to take a couple of kids bikes. Disclaimer: I've not actually used it in this fashion, COVID put a stop to the plans we had to use it to carry bikesI have 2 of the cheap roof mount racks like this (actually the cheaper version, but that doesn't have an image)These are secured by bolts through the slats on the Easybase, both the bike rack and the Easybase have holes already drilled, so it's just a matter of lining up the holes and bolting together. I've only used the bottom channel of the racks as the upright arms were too long to fit the smaller bikes.Then I bought 2 of these to secure to the upright bar of the Easybase. These needed some modification, as they're designed for a different Thule system, and the tube of the upright is too thick. You can get various different arms as spare parts, these
