By that I mean don't decapitate anyone for "transgression" of any of the laws, but definitely think about times you have seen these laws at work, and how a grasp on a relevant law from the book could have changed the outcome of that particular scenario. .Long story short, this is an amazing book! I love reading and was searching for what to read and stumbled upon this masterpiece. I'm not a fan of modern day books, but this one changed my perspective. BEWARE! YOU MUST TAKE THINGS LIKE A GRAIN OF SALT! Robert Greene makes sure you become aware of this, each and every law, when applied on the day to day basis, must be carefully practiced. All stories lie By Eric Everytime someone tells a story, they must choose what facts to include, which to dismiss, and which, perhaps, to exaggerate for the moralistic purposes of the author. This book certainly takes grand liberties with the stories he tells, occasionally even using the same historical circumstance in a contradictory manner. But these contradictions don't necessarily deprive the reader of useful ideas; the stories, after all, are used for their metonymy not for their historical accuracy. I personally found the constant reminders of the importance of self determination to be highly inspirational, pushing me to begin acknowledging my own moral contradictions. Often this book is hailed as amoral, but I would personally characterize it as morally agnostic. It does as much to advocate self awareness as it does to expose the contradictions of many of our socially held moralisms. This point is made especially clear when we reflect how often those among us who claim to the greatest moral authorities are in fact those who are most adept in adopting these 48 laws. Indeed, the first step anyone should do, if they see these principles as personally advantageous, would be to observe them personally while publicly decrying it as amoral trash. This author itself is perhaps one of the very best we have ever seen in existence. This book teaches you many things, wise things, positive but also negative things. Things, let me me rephrase that.... Tools we need in today's modern world. As this book goes back to before Christ times to the Roman empire, thru the 1960s when John Gotti ruled the streets with nothing but ruthlessness and fear. Harry Houdini and his outmasterous tricks while fooling everyone, and of course the great Julius Caesar and his incredible reign. Plus and such a treat, this book breaks down each law, also telling stories about the great courteé Nepoleon & of course stories and phrases about the great philosopher Nicolló Machiavelli. Incredible, incredible book this is. My favorite thus far. ( Not allowed in state penitentiaries though) they consider it a weapon.People are complaining about what this book teaches but they fail to understand that by the time you can read a book like this you've more likely already lived through countless people like the book itself. In my opinion knowledge is power and it never hurts to know and understand. What you learn you can use for the greater good to avoid these people this book teaches. Robert Greene is an awesome writer. Its not just butterflies on this planet. Read this book and be aware of those walking among us and the tactics they use to deceive us. I didn't read the book in hopes that I will learn to deceive. I read the book and instantly remembered moments of people i knew
